Nick's Big Birthday Week- Part 1

So, as you may know from my last post, Nick celebrated his 32nd birthday on Monday. Man, he's getting old! I still have seven months to relish in that...

I decided the two of us would celebrate his birthday last weekend and then we'd have celebrate with the boys on Monday. Our Saturday celebration was doomed from the start, I think. We usually end up going out to eat and then to a hockey game for Nick's birthday... just something we've done since we were dating. Well, neither of the hockey teams in Des Moines had home games on Saturday, so I had to come up with something else. The weekend kind of snuck up on me and I couldn't really find anything to do. I made reservations at Bonefish Grill, since Nick's a seafood fan. We've had a few really good dinners there, so I figured I'd manage to find a non-fishy meal for myself & it would be a good start. Long story short, our service was a little odd, they didn't have mashed potatoes when we ordered (a major component of Nick's meal- um, how are you out of mashed potatoes at 7 on a Saturday when it's part of one of your specials??? Turns out the steamer was broken). At least they had really good pomegranate martinis to make up for it!

After our so-so dinner, I gave Nick a few options... go to the new piano bar near the restaurant, go to the Funny Bone, get a glass of wine or coffee, or make a quick Wal-Mart stop to pick up some stuff water needed for church. And the winner was... WAL-MART! We got some Christmas gifts, our water and headed out. Not a very fun component of birthday night... but it was his choice.

After the oh-so-exciting events, we decided we'd cap the night off with a glass of wine or a coffee. As we were pulling into our parking spot, someone thought they'd try and go between us and the spot... apparently, she wasn't quick enough. We ran right into the side of her car. When Nick got out to talk to her, she wanted to know why he hit her... um, the blinker??? I guess she didn't see it, because when he pointed it out to her & offered to call the cops to come and file an accident report, she took off. We got her license plate, called the cops and topped off our evening by filing a report.

Needless to say, we decided we didn't want our night to end up worse, so we just went home. I think our babysitter was surprised to see us back so early... and disappointed that he wouldn't get to make a few extra bucks:)

Well, at least it won't be one we'll ever forget... and it won't be hard to top next year!

Happy Birthday, Nick. Glad it's over!

Oh no! Well, it was the attempt, Liz. Maybe you need to attempt a half-birthday celebration in six months to make up for it!
