I don't know if it's the fact that I stay at home, so I feel like I need to diversify my activities beyond play-doh & throwing together a quick pot of pasta for dinner or the fact that a bunch of my SAHM friends are getting into it, but I've got the itch to start sewing.
In fifth grade I really wanted to be a fashion designer. My friend Brianna and I even came up with our own label name: Briz. Twenty or so years later, that dream never became a reality.
My Nanny had always dreamed of going to fashion design school, too, but put her dreams on hold when she met my grandpa during WWII and left her family and dreams behind to move to the States with her new husband and start a family. She was a seamstress instead, so I grew up going to visit her at work, admiring all of the sewing machines and her handiwork. I must admit that I never truly appreciated all of the things she and my mom made for me, but now realize how much time and love they put into everything they created.
Although I'll never be able to sew wedding dresses or my own clothes like Nanny, the new season of "Project Runway" is getting me really excited to break out my new Singer and get to work. Unfortunately, like blogging, finding the time to do it seems to be my biggest obstacle. Nick & the boys bought me a sewing machine for my birthday over a month ago. I bought fabric to make burp clothes that very same week. Both are still sitting untouched in the basement. I keep thinking of how much I want to get started, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get big chunks of time to myself. I actually have both of the boys napping at the same time today... maybe that will actually start to work out.
Hopefully this weekend will be my venture into the world of needles & bobbins. I'm starting off simple- little baby items for gifts, but I'll keep you posted on how they turn out!

I'm the same way when it comes to being crafty. I get lots of good ideas and then get as far as buying the materials, and that's where I stop. I am determined to make some hoodie bath towels in the next week...possibly...
