So proud...

We've had some pretty funny happenings this week...

the dentist
Since he's now a big boy at 2 1/2, Jack had his second trip to the dentist. At two, Jack pretty much kept his mouth on lock down. No one was getting in there as hard as they might try. I was so disappointed... I'm one of those weirdos who LOVES the dentist- especially now that our dentist offers paraffin hand treatments & neck wraps during your cleaning! So, I've really wanted Jack to love going to the dentist, too. We've been practicing the last week or so on how to open up and talking all about how much fun the dentist office can be. By Monday morning, he was geared up, opening up his mouth, talking about the fish and ready to visit the dentist.

He walked right in & realized the fish had moved. They've remodeled part of the office and I was surprised he remembered how it was set up since he'd only been there once, six months ago. He found the "Nemo" fish and went back to the chair with no problem. Only when they wanted him to get up in the chair, did he freak out. He actually did fine once I sat in the chair with him & even laughed a few times. The hygienist was super kid-friendly & tickled his hands with the "tickle toothbrush," put water in his hand and sucked it up. He had great time- well, maybe great is too strong... he at least didn't throw another major fit.

When it came time to pick out a toothbrush, the hygienist offered him a Cars toothbrush- Lightening McQueen or Mater. He's never seen the movie, so he didn't really get too excited. She opened the drawer and offered up Diego. Jack loves Diego, but nope... he went right for the Dora toothbrush. She pointed out that she had a Diego one. No- it was Dora all the way. Not the blue or green Dora toothbrush, but the pink one. He was adamant... When he was all done and got a balloon, the hygenist was asking him his favorite color... "blue? green? pink?..." I said, "He'll take orange." I'm all for him playing in his kitchen, loving on his "baby," and even having a pink Dora toothbrush. ..

the nursery
We've been super blessed with an awesome small group. We all connected through a class at church about 3 1/2 years ago and have been meeting weekly ever since. This fall, we're taking a class together at church, with childcare provided. This is a huge perk, as our group has gone from three to six kiddos in the last six months. The only potential problem is the nursery... Jack has hated the nursery for the last 2 years. We seriously haven't made it through a service, class or anything without getting paged. We stopped even trying because it seemed to be pointless.

For the last few days, we've been talking about how he'll get to go to church and play with his friends, Lucy & Jenna. We also told him he has to make sure Will does OK. He told Nick the other night, "I'll watch over Will, dad. It's OK."

We dropped Jack, Will and Lucy off at the same time, hoping that a playmate would make the transition easier... Funny that Jack was the only one not crying when we left! Maybe half way through class, our pager vibrated loudly on the table. Of course! We looked at each other and I said, "Which one?" Nick left, not to be returning, I assumed. He came back 10 minutes later and said Will was just sleepy, so he calmed him down.

After class, we headed back to the nursery. I thought for sure we'd pick up two mad boys. Jack wasn't crying initially, but before long the tears came... because he didn't want to stop playing! What happened to my little mama's man? Might we be able to get this kind of reaction on a Sunday morning? I don't know that we'll be able to count on such a response every week, but we're off to a great start!
